Lorne S. Cousins Ph.D.

Psychologist
Dr. Cousins received his Doctorate Degree in Psychology from Carleton University in Ottawa, in 1978. During his training, he participated in clinical internships at Rideau Regional Centre in Smiths Falls Ontario, Rideau Correctional Centre in Burritts Rapids Ontario, and at Surrey Place Centre in Toronto. Following his Doctoral degree, Dr. Cousins joined the staff at Summit School for the Developmentally Disabled where he has worked as a school psychologist and team leader for the past twenty eight years. In 1985 Dr. Cousins began working as a private practitioner for children, adolescents and young adults at the Applied Learning Center in Montreal. Later, in 1989, he joined the Hyperactivity Research Team in the Child Psychiatry Department at the Montreal Children’s Hospital.

Dr. Cousins currently divides his professional time between Summit School for the developmentally disabled, The Montreal Children’s Hospital and his private practice. He is presently Head of the Psychology Department at Summit School. His work at the The Montreal Children’s has been predominantly in research to identify effective psycho-social treatments for children and adults with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. His areas of interest include parent training, teacher consultation, social skills training and adult ADHD. In private practice Dr. Cousins treats patients of all ages, families and couples using an eclectic approach that includes cognitive behavioural and solution focused therapies. He also organizes and carries out comprehensive psycho-educational evaluations for ADHD and learning disabilities across the life span. His professional association memberships include the Ordre des Psychologues du Québec, The Canadian Psychological Association, and the Association for the Advancement of Behaviour Therapy.
